Blackhorn  specializes in the fabrication of metal fencing, handrails, gates, and other custom metal work. Our work includes Residential, Commercial and Farm & Ranch. Our shop is located in Cibolo, Texas and our customer base is primarily in San Antonio and surrounding areas. Job Descriptions

  •  Metal Fabricator / Welder

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Proactive about determining equipment, materials and tool requirements to complete tasks
  • Organize and maintain work area to achieve safe, clean and efficient operations
  • Shop projects may include: cut, layout, clamp, tack and weld metal pipe/tubing/panel/etc. for fabrication, using a chop saw, band saw, or oxyacetylene torch, and a mig-welder
  • Assist with the installation of wrought iron fence, handrails and gates
  • Assist with the installation of gate openers and gate opener accessories
  • Field projects may include: clear fence line, drill post holes, layout fence, set posts, saddle pipe with torch, weld pipe with arc welder, grind excess slag off of welds, tack weld panel, stretch wire, tie wire, clean and degrease metal, prime, and paint
  • Operate skid steer as necessary, primarily for the use of loading/unloading materials and drilling post holes

Qualifications

  • Qualifications include:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • 2+ years welding experience preferred
    • Ability to demonstrate skills using a mig welder, arc welder and torch
    • Knowledge of safety precautions related to occupational hazards, procedures and practices of the trade
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
    • Ability to read a tape measure and basic hand held measuring tools
    • Ability to read and interpret drawings and follow work instructions
    • Strong work ethic, good attitude and willingness to learn
    • Ability to work independently or as a team
    • Occasional out-of-town travel maybe required
    • Must have two valid forms of identification, including valid driver’s license
    • Good command of the English language, both written and verbal
    • Must have reliable transportation

Compensation & Benefits

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lifting 50 to 100 lbs.
  • Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noises, dust, gas and/or fumes
  • Frequent holding and grasping with the hands when handling tools and equipment
  • Position requires bending, pushing, pulling and lifting
  • Occasionally will work on ladders, lifts, and at height

  •  Welder’s Helper

  • Cut metal tubing for fabrication, using a chop saw or band saw
  • Ability to cut and saddle pipe with an oxyacetylene torch is a plus, but not required
  • Assist with the installation of wrought iron fence, handrails and gates
  • Assist with the installation of gate openers and gate opener accessories
  • Field projects may include: clear fence line, drill post holes, assist in layout of fence, set posts, grind excess slag off of welds, stretch wire, tie wire, clean and degrease metal, prime, and paint
